Happy Pi & Pie Days!

Okay technically Happy Pie Day was January 23rd AND yesterday was March 14th Happy Pi 3.14 Day. But, any day is a great time to celebrate PIE !

Pi is a VERY specific although unending number 3.14159265…! Pie can be a VERY wide ranging (perhaps unending) food! This is a comprehensive CNN article which outlines both the geographical histories and also the huge variety of ingredients possible. There could be 365 days of PIE.

Easter pt.2 – Iconic Egg!

As a quick follow up, another Eater article outlines the history & evolution of the Cadbury Easter Egg. And perhaps it is not only Iconic but also deserves Cult status!

From a horizontal eating perspective, it will be important to get “non Hersey made” Cadbury Easter Creme Eggs to double check the slight flavour variation(s) and it may require travel… This deep dive by the BBC gives additional background on this important taste test topic.

Easter Eggs!

Easter is quickly approaching – it is the final weekend of March in 2024.

Easter means Easter Candy and more specifically Easter Eggs! This past Christmas, Cadbury put out Candy Cane Mini Easter Eggs which were the PERFECT “Combination” Holiday treat. In fact, a bag has been stockpiled to taste test against the usual Cadbury Eggs in all their sizes – Mini vs Macro.

Now, this Eater article gives an impressive line up of Easter Eggs available this year – plus a ranking – Cadbury Mini Eggs rank #1! I’ve only tried 4 of the 12 listed Candy Eggs so time for an Easter Egg Hunt to double check the ranking… I personally do like Cadbury Easter Creme Eggs (unfairly ranked at #11) and learned that they were first produced in 1923!

And Krispy Kreme is decorating their special Easter Donuts with Cadbury Mini Eggs – a true Fun Food Combo!

Easter Fun Food Extravaganza!

It is the long Easter Weekend and there is an abundance of Fun Food!

This handy summary of key Easter candy comes from a survey by Instacart. Egg shaped candy comes out on top of Bunny shaped candy and chocolate is #1 no matter the shape! I cannot believe that a majority of people believe Easter candy is better than Halloween Candy though…

My fave apple cinnamon hot cross buns from Cobs are popular and hard to find – they will be baking them until approximately Wednesday. AND McDonald’s has an Easter Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry, I may have to go tomorrow while it is still the long weekend!

Easter Candy Corn – Someone’s Fun Food…

I’m a BIG fan of Easter Candy (currently missing my FAVOURITE Ganong Easter Cherry Eggs as they were not produced in 2022…!) but as I have already put on the record, I am not a fan of candy corn.

As this Pure Wow article shares, Easter Candy Corn comes in very cute colours. The article also outlines the history of candy corn that stretches back to the late 1800s…! The cute colours are a more recent update.

And I find it very funny that one brand of “candy corn” is calling their version Easter Chick Poop and it is sold out on Amazon…! Seems fitting somehow but I am amazed it is sold out.

Halloween – a Fun Food Fiesta

Trick-or-Treating is good exercise and a great source of sweet Fun Food. And Halloween Parties present an opportunity for Halloween Snacks and Fun finger Foods – thank you PureWow for this Frycuterie Board idea. Plus Scary Cocktails – bring on the Witch’s Brew!

There are quite a few helpful lists of successful Halloween candy – this one from PureWow will help ensure long lines at your door! And taste testing is not optional, you have to ensure your Treats are good.

Have you ever tried Candy Corn, a perennial Halloween “treat”? All is explained in this informative Thrillist article which describes Candy Corn as the “Fall Peeps”? If you haven’t eaten any, please read this article first and then try it. If you have, then this article may help… Candy Corn is adored by many but it is not on my Fun Food list.

To add to what may not make it on your Fun Food list, here is another fun Thrillist article of what they don’t want to get in their Trick or Treat bags!

A Fun Food Scientist!

Ice cream is a Fun Food that many would rank very high on their favourites list.  One person has made it their life’s work, Dr. Maya the Ice Cream Scientist – this Thrillist article introduces the world of Food Science.

July is National Ice Cream Month and July 18 is National Ice Cream Day so today is the day for your favourite ice cream.  It can be on a cone or in a bowl, it can be vanilla or chocolate or KD Mac&cheese flavoured – this fun Eater articles gives the low down on the KD flavour!

For me, Dairy Queen a.k.a. DQ is my choice.  I love their Blizzards, sundaes (Peanut Buster Parfait!), cakes, milkshakes and pizzas.  Hot fudge on a Blizzard with extra add-ins is a decadent sundae and one of my fave Fun Foods.

VERY Fun Easter Food

Easter is coming and you know what that means – Easter Candy + Hot Cross Buns!   The first weekend in April is the 2021 Easter Weekend.

The Easter Bunny has a huge range of sweet Fun Food treats to share on Easter – Thank You Delish for a sizeable list!  And my current fave Ganong’s Chocolate covered Cherry Eggs (BELOW – jujubes!) have been out since mid February.  PLUS now I want to find these Easter Marshmallow Stuffed Puffs…

Another Easter Fun Food is hot cross buns and having taste tested a few, my current fave is from Cobs Bread.  They come in 4 flavours and the apple cinnamon ones are unbelievably vegan and “heavenly” – they are gone soon after Easter to rise again every year…!
